Recipient Org: Description | Àban works with schools, community groups and partner charities to offer positive outdoor adventures for children & families in need. We are a stable presence in our community, where many traditional institutions for youung people have been eroded. Specifically, our doors are open to all, without the need for booking ahead online. We aim to: 1. Improve confidence as youngsters get ready for the world of work 2. Integrate healthy outdoor activities as a normal part of daily life 3. Help the next generation to value, enjoy and protect our natural world We work in Merkinch and South Kessock, helping young people to develop a healthy spirit of adventure using the outdoor spaces closest to home. Our approach is local, simple and cost-effective. In less than 2 years we have set up ? Scotland?s only independent open Duke of Edinburgh?s Award group, incl. 10 x fully subsidised scholarships ? An outdoor support group for Young Adult Carers run in partnership with Connecting Carers ? An innovative ?Adventure Nurture? programme run with the Guidance Department at Inverness High School, supporting 12 of their most vulnerable S1 pupils We also run a free of charge kit library for families who want to get outdoors but lack the equipment to do so. We now plan to expand our school & community programme. Our ultimate aim is to open an outdoor family hub and youth club in Merkinch. |
