ALB-Historic England-Yorkshire Wolds Research Strategy (360G-cabinetoffice-G2-GA-202106413947-20-21)

York Archaeological trust (YAT) has been commissioned by Historic England (HE) to provide a Historic Environment Research Strategy For The Yorkshire Wolds in order to address heritage at risk issues and to leave a lasting legacy for the communities who live, work, pass through and have an interest in the Wolds and its stories. To achieve this, YAT will take a thematic approach to potentially create a research strategy based around farming, fishing, food production/provision and the rich, nationally important, agricultural economy that not only defined the economies of the past but also continues to define the contemporary economy. The project will identify the research strengths, gaps and opportunities in the Yorkshire Wolds in a way that will be accessible to current landowners, inhabitants and workers in this thriving landscape. The work will build on the overview of current research objectives and knowledge gaps at regional/national levels, and set it in the context of the current rural economy. It will strengthen links between academic, professional, public participation and community engagement. The project will engage with as many people/groups of people in the Yorkshire Wolds as possible to produce a strategy that is led by the people of the Wolds for the people of the Wolds.
