ALB-Historic England-Emergency Investigation Assistance: Tetney Golf Course prehistoric coffin (360G-cabinetoffice-G2-GA-202201765871-21-22)

During the summer of 2018 groundworks at the Tetney Golf Course uncovered the remains of a prehistoric burial including a fragmented timber coffin and a stone axe complete with its wooden haft attached. The burial was excavated by a team from Sheffield University, led by Dr. Hugh Willmott, and following assessment the coffin and the axe will now be conserved at the York Archaeological Trust.
