It is essential there exists well recognised, reputable and expertly run organisations able to provide anonymous and timely support. Furthermore, given the nature of the of the issue, namely that it disproportionately affects people with certain characteristics, it is vital a subset of the organisations hold expertise to support these groups. The national helplines form this critical, coordinated community response to VAWG including domestic abuse (DA). They do this by providing essential support to survivors of VAWG as well as their friends, families, colleagues, statutory professionals, and others who are concerned about them (including support tailored to specific forms of VAWG, for example stalking, revenge porn and honour-based abuse).
