The Long Preston Deeps floodplain covers 765 ha along the River Ribble, it is a priority habitat for wildlife and rare flora with 128 bird species record in 2019. 162 ha is a SSSI. Due to its location, sandwiched between the protected landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland AONB, this natural resource is perfectly placed to deliver the aims of the Nature Recovery Network.Deeper Connections will create and restore 10 ha of habitat in line with Lawtons Principles with a focus on wildlife corridors that provide vital nature based solutions but do not qualify for Forestry Commission or Agri-Environment schemes, including:16 habitat schemes - riparian woodlands, hedgerows, protection of wetlands and tributaries. 4.69 ha is ready to deliver.80 landscape trees to combat ash diebackRepair of aqueduct to benefit aquatic species and provide natural flood managementAn estimated 8,000 people will be connected to nature:1,355 people will be inspired through improved access and interpretation, volunteering and events, a further 7,000 through online activity.200 people from under-represented communities will participate in green activities60 farmers will be engaged2.5 green jobs sustained
