In November 2015, Government announced ?5m resource funding towards the Great Exhibition of the North (GEOTN). ?We will hold a Great Exhibition of the North in 2018, to celebrate amazing achievements in innovation, the arts and engineering? .The Exhibition will be the largest event of its kind in England in 2018 and a game-changing moment for the North of England. It will demonstrate how the great art, culture, design and innovation from this key region of the UK has shaped the lives we live today and is building the economy of tomorrow.The vision of the exhibition is to:Instill local pride across the region and inspire people to pursue exciting lives and careers in the North;Actively engage with local communities and innovative businesses across the North and forge new partnerships across the world enhancing the North?s profile nationally and internationally;Celebrate the great art, design and culture of the North of England, showcasing innovative and ambitious cultural and creative activity to the rest of the UK and placing the North on the international stage;Maximise people?s access and participation in the North to arts, heritage and culture no matter what their background or where they come from and enrich citizens? lives and promote social mobility through broadened experiences and networks; andIncrease the number of UK and international tourists visiting the North of England.
