The Alkaptonuria (AKU) Information Centre, based in Liverpool, will develop relationships with health professionals throughout England to help identify those with AKU and direct them into appropriate treatment, information and support. AKU is a debilitating and rare genetic disease that affects the cartilage and bone, slowly destroying them.Sufferers are isolated from support networks and overlooked from the medical establishment.
