Community Water and Sanitation in West Kenya (360G-tnlcomfund-0030140554)

£465,345
Recipient Organization

Disadvantaged communities in rural and peri-urban areas of Nyanza and western provinces of Western Kenya are vulnerable to waterborne and hygiene related diseases. Women and schoolgirls in particular spend many hours a day collecting water and therefore have less time for sustaining other gainful employment or study. In rural areas water quality is affected by use of fertiliser and deforestation. In peri-urban areas, there is severe overcrowding and limited access to safe water and sanitation.
