The funding will be used to deliver befriending activities to beneficiaries living with Sickle Cell in Walsall and surrounding areas and to maintain core posts within the organisation. Plasma of Hope is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation established in August 2020 delivering support across Walsall Wolverhampton and Birmingham to anyone affected by Sickle Cell Disease. Activities are delivered across 5 strands: - Befriending & Wellbeing support providing an awareness of SCD and enabling beneficiaries to make positive lifestyle choices to better manage their condition thus reducing the risk of hospitalisation. - Practical support to collect medication shopping and transport to health appointments. Financial support providing funds for small household aids supporting people with SCD to manage better at home. - Employment support to engage with employers to provide an awareness of the condition and support to remain in employment or where this is not possible support to search for other roles/ identification of training. - Campaigning POH actively campaign to raise awareness of genetic diseases such as SCD and Thalassemia. The organisation have most recently been funded through NHS Black Country & West Birmingham CCG to raise awareness of the COVID vaccine in the Black Community which was picked up by the BBC news.
