Recipient Org: Description Moray Art Centre?s purpose is to provide and promote accessible arts education, appreciation and creativity. The pandemic was a wake-up call for Moray Art Centre (MAC) to take stock, reach out digitally to our supporters and ask how we can best serve the community in which we live. MAC found itself perceived by some as elitist, inward-looking and not fulfilling its potential to help others in the local arts? landscape. In the 18 months since this feedback, we have rejuvenated our Board and sold our building to give us financial viability and capital to reach our full potential in providing a platform for local emerging artists and making art accessible to all. These changes have been reflected in our increased community engagement, workshop fulfilment and centre footfall. MAC's vision is to make art accessible to all and spread the benefits of creativity on wellbeing and community, in Moray, the Northeast of Scotland and beyond. For nearly 20 years MAC has offered an annual programme of free local and internationally-renowned exhibitions and events alongside a full programme of classes and weekend workshops for all levels. Our aim is to demystify the arts for those who think it is not for them so that everyone can benefit from creativity and positive wellbeing. We host events in the wider community, such as our regular Paint the View Competition in the local Seafest in Lossiemouth every August. Seafest & MAC partnered to coordinate a competition for amateur artists of all ages with works created during the competition shown in a community collection celebrated at MAC and increasing our community interactions. By mounting free exhibitions such as the recent COVENANT: Behind the Wire, we can reach not just the local artistic community but people throughout the Northeast of Scotland. It explored the relationship between the British Army in Moray and the wider community. The exhibited pieces ranged from internationally renowned artists, Moray School of Art students and amateur artists with a connection to the British armed forces. Similarly, we worked with Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) on our recent Art on the Edge exhibition via their ESF Employability Project to enable long-term unemployed people learn who to mount an exhibition and opening event while expressing themselves through their works alongside graduates of Moray School or Art and Aberdeen?s Gray?s School of Art. Enabling others is a intrinsic to MAC?s purpose and we also partner with the Social Enterprise Academy to provide free workshops for those who mental health cannot make it difficult to pursue work, giving them a safe space to create and talk and to learn from MAC?s team on how volunteering, creativity and upskilling helped us in pursuing our chosen paths. Sharing skills makes our society stronger and our work in advising Ukranian refugees in how to establish and manage their own creative businesses is another way MAC serves our wider community. To bring our vision to the local and broader communities we provide subsidised places in classes for those who could not afford them, run free workshops to bolster people?s mental health (our Art in Nature programme) and offer a hub for community groups. MAC can only do this through a vigorous revenue-raising workshop programme and Summer School to provide financial sustainability while attracting grant funding.
