Recipient Org: Description The Ayr Ark was established in 2002 by local churches to provide a solution to the growing problem of underage drinking and anti-social behaviour among the young people of South Ayrshire. The Ayr Ark?s goal is to provide a safe alternative to the many peer pressures that young people are faced with through engaging events, outreach, and mentoring. We are committed to having a positive influence on the lives, attitudes, physical and psychological well-being of young people regardless of their sex, race, creed, physical or mental ability. Although the last couple of years have been challenging for us as a charity, we have remained active and relevant in our work with our young people. The main aims of our charity are: ? Engaging with young people by running events and activities which address a variety of practical needs for young people. ? Equipping young people with the knowledge and understanding needed for building and developing their own life skills and self-confidence. ? Empowering young people with the experience and confidence to make wise and safe lifestyle choices and to take hold of a more positive future for themselves. Our activities include: Mentoring in High Schools We have an active Mentoring Programme within 4 local secondary schools, with a waiting list in some schools. We mentor on average 40 young people in a school term, this number fluctuates depending on the needs of the young person. Friday Nights We are open on a Friday night from 6.30pm ? 9pm for all young people aged 11-18 years. This is a drop-in centre where young people have the opportunity to come to The Ayr Ark which is a safe place. They can take part in many of our activities including playing pool, air hockey, basketball, the Xbox, or for the more adventurous, singing and dancing on the stage. We run a special activity each month e.g., indoor inflatables or outdoor marshmallow toasting. We are averaging 50-60 young people on a Friday night School Holiday Programmes We run school holiday programmes throughout the year which are all free and fully funded. We take young people on trips, and they are able to enjoy a varied programme of fun and exciting activities. Empower Autism This is an opportunity for young people who struggle with our Friday Night Drop in as it is a bit too noisy for them. We offer an opportunity for parents and carers to sit and relax while the young person can take part in sensory activities to suit their needs. We run this event over two nights to keep the numbers low.
