Recipient Org: Description Children's Holiday Venture is a student run charity working in areas of Edinburgh identified as in the 10% most 'socially deprived' areas of the city by the SIMD (2020). These are Niddrie, Craigmillar, Pilton, Granton, Sighthill and Wester Hailes. We receive referrals from third party organisations including GPs, CAMHS, teachers and social workers for children who they believe could benefit from our services. We provide free fortnightly activities, semesterly day trips and an annual summer camp to 140 children aged 8-18. Our evening activities can include swimming, trampolining, arts and crafts nights, circus skills workshops, rocket science events, sushi making, sports nights and more. Day trips have previously included Edinburgh Zoo, Dynamic Earth, Glasgow Science Center, Time Capsule Water Park, and Blackford Hill Hiking. Our goal is to support the emotional and social wellbeing of children in Edinburgh who have less access to extracurricular activities, support and who are more likely to experience social isolation. Our door to door service using our two minivans (fondly named Desmond and Doris) makes our groups as accessible as possible, and we aim to create long term support networks for the children referred to us throughout their childhoods.
