| Recipient Org: Description | As part of the extensive regeneration of Ardler Village the Ardler Village Trust was established by local people and partners in 2002 as a vehicle to allow the community to be involved in the long term social and economic development of the area. The main aim of the Trust is to ensure Ardler has a future as a vibrant engaged community. The Trust acts as a driver for community based regeneration and provides a mechanism for the participation of local people in the decision making processes affecting the area. As such it is the recognised Local Neighbourhood Structure. With the completion of the physical regeneration of Ardler in 2013 the Trust reviewed its role in the community. It was recognised that although the area was in good physical condition many of the social and economic challenges facing Ardler remained the same and the Trust began to refocus its efforts to address these. The Trust now operates a One Stop Shop which combines a charity shop providing low cost, high quality goods to local residents with a hub where local residents can find information on services and support available in the community. Volunteers are also trained to provide support to local people seeking advice, information and signposting to other agencies and services. The Charity Shop also supports residents by offering volunteer opportunities in the Charity Shop, boosting confidence, supporting personal development and offering training and work experience. The One Stop Shop hosts a variety of ?pop up? sessions to support specific needs in the community working in partnership with a range of service providers, e.g. welfare reform, health advice, energy advice and community safety. The Trust provides a calendar of social events including the annual Fun Day, the Christmas Lights event. and a programme of school holiday activities, for example, family events, science workshops, drama, sports and games, arts and crafts etc. Working with partners the Trust I is involved with the Community Garden which is being developed to be used as a focal point for health, educational and creative activities and events. For example, make it a place for people to meet with pick your own days, providing recipes for how to use the produce with samples of what can be made, using the produce grown in cooking classes. The Trust has recently established a regular Reminiscence Café aimed at elderly residents who maybe socially isolated and not connected to the wider community. The café provides an informal social gathering for older people to come together and enjoy a chat and refreshments. Reminiscence boxes are used to share stories and happy memories. For the above activities to be sustainable in the longer term we are working to encourage more residents to volunteer to increase community participation in the development and delivery of activities and not just increase attendance at events. To achieve this we will create a bank of volunteers, supported by local agencies giving them the skills and knowledge to engage others in the community. We will work with Volunteer Dundee to offer volunteers accredited training and development which will include as well as formal training mentoring, shadowing with local community workers and visits to other projects. |
