Recipient Org: Description | Edinburgh Garden Partners is a garden sharing scheme: we match older people, and others who are no longer able to access or make the most of their gardens due to disability or health condition, with volunteers looking for space to grow fruit and vegetables. Volunteers are matched 1-1 with garden owners according to location and shared interests, and we support them to set up and maintain a veg plot within the garden space. Produce grown is shared between volunteers and garden owners. We also work to build a sense of community amongst our volunteers and garden owners, providing a programme of events and training for people to get together and share skills and ideas. Finally, we work to promote the concept of garden sharing, and the many benefits we see for our community and the environment by attending relevant conferences and events. We have also presented our model to groups wishing to set up similar schemes in other parts of Scotland and further afield. |
