Recipient Org: Description | The Croft is an independent charitable organisation that runs Barlinnie Visitors Advice and Support Service. We operate out of HMP Barlinnie Prison and are open 7 days a week to cover all visitor sessions to support partners, families and friends visiting their loved ones in Barlinnie. By improving the visit experience for families we hope to increase the number of visits and facilitate more families visiting more often. We improve communications between visitors and prison staff and advocate for needs of families. and support families to build their resilience and confidence, reduce stigma and isolation, build internal capacity, improving knowledge and understanding of the support available to them (through our many partner organisations), the options open to them and the possibilities for better futures and opportunities. We provide: Advocacy ? bridging the gap between SPS and families, feeding back to SPS to improve policies and procedures Emotional Support ? often the only people families can talk to due to the nature of their loved ones? crimes, stigma, fear of being judged, isolation. Practical support ? shopping vouchers, help with travel, snacks & refreshments, activity packs, wellbeing packages, arts/craft packs & activities for children, books etc Information and advice ? how/where to access other services, referrals to partner agencies, etc Activities and events ? some fun, some educational. Working with partners, looking at issues such as keeping children safe online, child smile week, world book day, benefits advice, advice on housing and homelessness, addiction support, health and wellbeing amongst others. |
