Recipient Org: Description | Home-Start Falkirk is a community charity delivering a wide range of early intervention support services to alleviate social deprivation and isolation for some of the most vulnerable families with young children across Falkirk district - a large, semi-rural area of 114 square miles with pockets of extreme deprivation, exacerbated by poor access to services and weak transport infrastructure. The focus for our support is one-to-one visits made in the home by a network of trained community volunteers, who provide emotional support and a practical approach to problem solving for wide-ranging issues including poor parental and child mental health, problems with benefits, debt, and housing, children with additional needs, unhealthy lifestyles, poor home safety and safeguarding. We also deliver a weekly Family Support Hub programme in four of Falkirk?s most deprived locations. Each Hub is led by a Senior Group Worker; however, peer support is the backbone of the programme, with input from a range of partners, including Citizen's Advice Bureau, the Credit Union, Speech and Language Therapists. It is a ?wrap around? service, offering special play and activity programmes for children to help them become more independent, learn new skills, and socialise. Parents gain confidence and skills with their children and are supported by specialists to deal with the external challenges they may be facing. Each family is assessed at an initial visit and a tailored programme of support devised to meet the particular challenges that family faces. Progress is assessed every three months at formal reviews with parents and children, and this is used as the basis for moving families through our service until they feel empowered mentally and physically to move on. |
