Recipient Org: Description Volunteering Hebrides is a dynamic, innovative charity and has provided unique, essential services and volunteering opportunities for decades, reducing inequalities and responding to needs of people/communities on our remote islands, so they are healthier, better-educated, better-off and fairer. We support 500+ people through our social-action projects, providing positive interventions for vulnerable/disadvantaged people, especially those with needs beyond those met by statutory services. People are at the heart of everything ? we work hard to remove barriers stopping individuals reaching their potential. We connect more people than any other organisation in the Hebrides and there are some very unique needs in our community, due to our rural and remote island location. We deliver the following social action initiatives in our community: 1. The Embark Community Activities Project - enabling people to access community activities who would not otherwise be able to do so due to physical/mental health conditions and other additional needs, in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Elements include: a. The Embark Community Cycling Project - weekly group rides led by trained Cycle Ride Leaders and one to one 'On Yer Bike,' sessions designed to help people to grow in confidence on a bike. Free loans of adult bikes, e-bikes, trikes and specially adapted e-tandems and free longer term loans of children's bikes from our fleet of over 80 bikes in our Children's Cycle Library. b. Going Places Walking and Wheeling groups - weekly sessions for a range of abilities, led by trained Walk Leaders. c. Beach cleans and walks - 2 per month. d. Intergenerational food growing learning sessions within our polytunnel - weekly. 2. Islanders Befriending Project - supporting around 250 people through traditional befriending, telephone befriending, kindness calls and a weekly programme of group events with free meals included. 3. The Courtyard Collective Charity Shop - selling good quality secondhand clothing. Growing needs of young people in our remote island communities have led us to work with them to determine which services will best meet their needs and we have recently launched Building Futures Hebrides, a brand new, unique, desperately needed community-led prevention initiative for 16-25 year olds on our remote island. Elements include: -Social Learning Academy for education leavers and long-term unemployed young people. -New support group for local young people who have, or with close family members who have, received a diagnosis of cancer/long-term condition. -Supported volunteering opportunities in our social-action projects -Free, quick access to counselling/mediation by a certified professional -Support to take part in outdoor pursuits and access the equipment required. All of these projects are delivered by Volunteering Hebrides staff and volunteer teams, with a healthy foundation comprising of: ? Overwhelming community support ? A skilled board of trustees ? Committed and trained volunteers ? Committed, educated and personable staff ? Committed, skilled and educated leadership To ensure effective social inclusion and to meet the needs of all groups of people in society, our referral/joining process is structured to ensure that no restrictions are in place which may prohibit the inclusion of any groups in society. Presently we are members of the Western Isles Carers, Users and Supporters Network, the local Alcohol and Drugs Partnership and Neuro Hebrides. We work closely with the social work department, Penumbra, supported housing agencies, advocacy services, addiction recovery programmes, Sports Centres and activity groups, as well as other volunteer led organisations and charities such as Action For Children and Samaritans of the Western Isles. We have representation on the local health and social care integrated joint partnership board and we are a partner in the TSI Western Isles. We are members of Voluntary Health Scotland and SCVO.
