Recipient Org: Description | Midlothian Sure Start has a 24-year track record of supporting ?every infant, child and family in our community to thrive? through delivering early learning & childcare, family learning programmes, family support, therapeutic support and perinatal infant mental health services in six family learning centres based in local areas of greatest deprivation. Community hubs like those run by Midlothian Sure Start act as a place-based opportunity for families to access information, advice and signposting ?providing a ?lifeline? to families? MSS recognises the need to respond to the infant/child?s voice and takes a whole family approach to this work as we recognise that infants and young children?are at a particularly vulnerable stage. They require an attuned adult to hear and respond to their communication of their needs (physical, social, and emotional). This is at a time when expectant and new parents also experience increased vulnerability and require services which take a systemic and holistic lens. The team recognise that families with young children are a priority risk group for child poverty and that the pairing of adverse childhood experiences with adverse community environments compound to create a negative cycle of ever worsening adversity. In order to ensure that services are not stigmatised, we offer universal as well as targettted services. These include our A Good Start programme which was developed in co-production with parents, targetted parenting programmes such as Circle of Security and Raising Children with Confidence and a range of family learning programmes such as PEEP, Healthy living, Parents involved in their children's learning, Open Kindergartne etc. Therapeutic tools include Video Interactive Guidance, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centred Counselling and Mindfulness. Midlothian Sure Start recognise that they can't provide this "one stop shop" alone and therefore work in close partnership with statutory and Third sector partners such CABx, Health Visitors, Midwives, Midlothian Council Early Years, Home Link, Play therapy base, MVA, Parenting Across Scotland, Open University, Edinburgh University, Queens University, Children in Scotland, PAIRS, employability supports, food pantries etc. |
