| Recipient Org: Description | With Kids provides Play Therapy to children (age 3-12) who are struggling to manage their emotions, participate at school or make friends due to trauma/adverse experiences. We work with families of children receiving Play Therapy, and families in the wider community, to provide tailored support; counselling, parenting strategies, material support and community activities (such as arts and crafts activities, after school club and cinema nights). Many children and parents have been affected by someone in the family with alcohol addiction. Our purpose is to break cycles of deprivation by improving mental health, reducing isolation and improving the bond between child and parent. We work with children, families and the whole community to achieve this. Our work takes place in two of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland ? Edinburgh?s Wester Hailes and Glasgow?s East End, where there is a high instance of trauma/adverse experiences in both children and adults and high levels of alcohol misuse. Our vision is to create a nurturing environment where children can thrive. We also run the only MSc in Play Therapy delivered in Scotland, in partnership with Queen Margaret University. |
