Recipient Org: Description | Moniaive Initiative was formed to deliver legacy projects for Moniaive and the surrounding parish of Glencairn. Our aims are to advance sustainable community development, to relieve rural disadvantage, and to encourage wider participation in all aspects of community life. We are a two-tier organisation, consisting of members who elect a Board of Trustees. Membership is free and open to any local resident over the age of 16, and we currently have approximately 90 members. The Hive averages 25 volunteers who regularly work in the shop, and others who offer ad-hoc voluntary time or attend work parties. Our Repair Café averages 10 volunteers per session, and our newly started Growing project currently has 5 regular volunteers. We currently employ 3 part-time staff. Our completed projects include creation of a community shop and hub, renovation of as long-empty house to provide affordable housing, upgrades to play facilities, introduction of a heritage event, and small-scale interventions to improve pedestrian accessibility in Moniaive. We have also supported other organisations (including the Glencairn Memorial Institute and Moniaive Playcare) to carry out building and renovation projects of their own. The Hive, our community shop and hub, is now proactive in tackling issues at the heart of our community. Our portfolio is outlined in our Glencairn and Moniaive Action Plan 2022-27, which is available on our website. |
