Recipient Org: Description | Biosphere Bikes Community Bike Hub (BB) is a registered charity and non profit social enterprise located in Girvan which is utilising local assets for the benefit of people, place and planet. BB is not just about cycling and bikes it is a Community Bike Hub that uses cycling as a tool to have a positive social impact benefitting Girvan and the wider South Ayrshire area, creating local employment and training opportunities no matter age, ability, disability or experience. The Community Bike Hub provides activity and engagement which is not only beneficial to health and wellbeing but has positive environmental impacts, helping to cut carbon emissions and contributing to reducing carbon miles travelled. We repurpose bikes to make them affordable and positively encourage them to be recycled back to us when they are no longer fit for purpose or outgrown. We provide a "pay it forward" service for those who cannot afford to have their bike fixed or serviced and ensure everyone who comes through our doors is welcomed and given the best advice and encouragement possible to get cycling or wheeling on two, three or four wheels. We also provide beach wheelchairs, go karts, wheelchairs and mobility aids that have been repurposed from care homes for anyone requiring them free of charge. We also run an e-bike library where those with a local postcode can affordably access e-bikes. We provide group training workshops aimed at those with additional support needs or are having difficulty finding employment. We want to give people a chance and give them the respect and empathy they deserve. Our workshops are based on team building, decision making, problem solving, numeracy and physical work refurbishing wheeled transport to be donated those in need in South Ayrshire. |
