| Recipient Org: Description | The principal activity of the Charity is to provide a central Hub in Stranraer where people over the age of sixty can come to meet and socialise. We have our own adapted minibus suitable to take wheelchairs. If members don?t have their own transport then we are able to collect them and take them home again at the end of the day, because this is a very rural area. We are open five days a week and currently have a membership of 64 and we provide breakfast with a three-course nutritious meal at lunchtime. Our members look forward to various activities and trips out and our staff are dedicated to making every day different and memorable. Having a place to come to, knowing they will have a meal and being able to meet up with friends, means they will save on heating costs in their own homes. Following a review of our organisation we have been looking at our assets, engaging with our members and looking at ways in which we can further support the more vulnerable members in our community. Through our conversations with families, service users and carers etc., we have become increasingly aware of the issues of suitable washing facilities for vulnerable adults and occasions of people being unable to leave hospital, essentially bed blocking due to the fact that they don't have the correct facilities at home. Therefore we have decided to install an accessible shower/bathroom in September which will be free and bookable and can be accessed by families, care providers, health and social care colleagues. Also, it would not be limited to our membership, it could also be accessed by individuals of any age and their families to address temporary issues from accidents and illness, where recovery is expected, reducing the costs of adaptations to properties. We also have the following organisations attending the Centre: Thai Chi with Versus Arthritis every third Tuesday Better Lives Partnership monthly Capability Scotland monthly Citizens Advice/money matters by appointment Social Services and Visibility Scotland every fourth Thursday Hairdressing every Wednesday The men attend the Men's shed in Stoneykirk monthly Podiatrist monthly by appointment We do not charge any of the above organisations or people for use of the facilities, so that they can carry out their business with the minimum overheads. Once per month we have Belmont Nursery visit the Centre, and Park school learning centre once every 3 months. We are a Living Wage employer. |
