Recipient Org: Description | Edinburgh Food Project (EFP) operates 7 foodbanks in areas of multiple deprivation across Edinburgh, providing emergency food supplies to people living in poverty. Established in 2012, the charity has strived to meet the changing and increased needs of the community, and to help break the cycle of food poverty. EFP works in partnership with statutory and third sector organisations, and is affiliated to the Trussell Trust, the UK?s leading food poverty charity. Our charitable objects are the prevention or relief of poverty in Edinburgh and surrounding areas through the provision of emergency food supplies and other aligned activities, and the advancement of citizenship and community development through volunteering. Our mission is to provide emergency food supplies and support to people in crisis, while working with people, communities, and our partner agencies to address the underlying causes of food poverty. We provide emergency food provision by? ? Operating 7 foodbank centres in NW, E and Central Edinburgh ? Providing > 8,478 food parcels (3 meals/day for 3 days, plus household essentials) per month, alongside care, compassion and a safe space. ? Building and maintaining relationships with 240+ referral partners Since 2017, we have expanded our service delivery from the provision of emergency food supplies to include the design and implementation of a ?foodbank plus? model in our foodbank centres, making them ?More Than Food? (MTF) hubs. We tackle the underlying causes of food poverty through our 'More Than Food' programme within foodbank centres, by providing? ? FCA regulated Money Advice Service (MAS) helpline and drop in sessions ? Advice drop-in sessions with partner agencies, including Y People, Real Jobs and Changeworks ? Signposting to other agencies support agencies, including Kids Love Clothes, Home Energy Scotland and Scottish Welfare Fund. |
