CCC operates a Charity Shop for income generation and volunteering opportunities for the members of the local community. The CCC Hub offers a weekly timetable of activities aimed at the elderly living in isolation or within supported accommodation; young families with children under 5 years old and young people. These activities include - Men's Shed; Lunch and Social Clubs; Gentle Exercise and Gentle Walking; Baby Singalongs and Toddler and Carers; Craft Groups; Sporting Memory Group; Walking Group; Knitting and Crochet Group; Youth Club; Art Group.. We also have monthly Tea Dances and; occasional Fairs - Crafts and Seasonal Events at Christmas and in the Summer in the centre to bring the community together. We have been developing Intergenerational Activities and school children have been assisting with the groups and leaning new skills from the senior members. The Centre is also available for other small businesses or community groups to hire for activities and events. And now boasts over 900 people a week using the centre through CCC led activities and other community organisations activities. CCC have recently successfully completed the purchase of Westfield House from the Council through the Community Asset Transfer scheme. We are now in the early stages for planning permission to install a lift and refurbishment the building so it is fully accessible to the community. There is currently no statutory community centre provision in this locality. the local library whilst offering activities has very limited operating hours. CCC is bringing a million pound+ asset to be owned and managed by the community through the CAT. The centre offers grassroots led activities for the community as consulted and designed by the community. The CCC Hub will also continue to offer a vast array of volunteering opportunities to combat social isolation and increase employability outcomes. The fully accessible building will open up access for those members currently excluded due to physical health related issues, additional support needs and limited mobility. Provision of a dementia informed area on the ground floor will support the ageing population in the area - Corstorphine has the highest residency of elderly people in the city. This area will support the Corstorphine Dementia Group to continue to provide a dedicated, registered day care service to people living with and affected by dementia. The first floor will be transformed to provide 3 health and well being fitness/dance studios to offer yoga, mindfulness, dance, mixed martial arts and exercise to all ages and levels to promote healthy lifestyles. The community garden area will bring a peaceful setting to enjoy picnics, play and get hands dirty planting planters to combat the air pollution from St Johns Road. With the lift installed the community will access civic space on the top floor alongside a range of business hot desks for the locally self employed residents to share space and ideas. The CCC hub is open to all - from babies to toddlers, primary and secondary school pupils, those looking for volunteer opportunities to start or change careers or keep their hand in after retirement and for a safe and welcoming space to make social connections, combat loneliness and keep fit.
