Recipient Org: Description The Organisation was formed in 1998 in response to Stranraer having no Community Centre and the building was lying empty in the Town centre. Our primary aim is to manage a totally accessible centre for all the people of Stranraer and District to meet and socialise in, for the centre to become a hub for community activities and the Voluntary Sector. We respond to identified needs in the community We work in partnership with all sectors to achieve this. We are a social enterprise and a company limited by guarantee. after being successful in attracting major capital funding to give Stranraer a modern state-of-the-art community centre. We opened in October 2019 and so far the bookings and interests have justified the cost, although in the past 18+ Months Covid 19 has had an impact on everyone as a whole. The Millennium centre played a big part in the recovery of Stranraer during Covid working in partnership with other organisations including the community council, during this time many staff on furlough gave their time to assist and undergo training such as suicide and mental health awareness to support our community, the Millennium Centre continues to support our community after coved by enabling people of all ages to access classes, activities, events and mental health support, by providing a safe, calming environment for both users and staff to use.
