Recipient Org: Description Home-Start Clackmannanshire was established in 1988, originally set up by local parents, to support fellow local parents. This model of volunteers supporting families has remained at our core since then. We are a family support charity, providing a bespoke package of practical and emotional supports to any family in Clackmannanshire with at least one child under the age of 12. Families can self-refer, or be referred, to access our services for a wide variety of reasons, all stemming back to them finding daily family life challenges. This could be due to difficulties such as diagnosed mental health illness, disability, historic trauma, domestic abuse, living in poverty, relying on benefits to get through the day and who are extremely isolated and lonely. Nearly half of our families are headed by one adult and domestic abuse cases continue to increase. There is a criminality aspect to a number of families where the partner has been incarcerated or the parent we are supporting has been involved in criminal activity. We work to provide whole family support, providing early intervention to ensure lasting positive change in families lives. All elements of our work are based on a solutions-focused approach, working together (to do with not for families), to enable parents to be at their best for themselves and their children - to positively build resilience, to ensure families are able to lead fulfilling, healthy, safe lives. All engagement and activities are designed with families themselves. Although our work is geared toward early intervention, in recent years, we have seen an increase in more complex family challenges, and a growing need for longer term, intensive support, as such, our services have adapted and grown to meet these local needs. In 2019, we also opened a Charity Shop, which has allowed us to expand our volunteering opportunities, build a programme of learning and development opportunities for locals hoping to progress on their employability journey, and generate income for our core family work. Our bespoke package of support includes: - ? Three Family Support Co-ordinators, who recruit, train, match and support our team of 25 Family Support Volunteers, in addition to providing direct family support and running our wellbeing groups for parents/carers. ? Our Family Support home-visiting Volunteers visit their Home-Start family on a regular basis to support Parents and Children alike emotionally, practically, and socially ? to help them overcome their daily challenges and set healthy routines and build relationships that will last. ? Two family support workers ? born from the growing need for staff support to families, providing one to one intensive support to parents and also directly to children (within school and the home environment). ? Two parent/carers only wellbeing groups, meeting weekly, to provide a safe, supportive space for parents. One based rurally in Menstrie, one more urban based in Alloa. ? Three, weekly, early years (0-3) support groups, based in Alloa, Tullibody and Tillicoultry to try and ensure accessibility to families in all areas of Clackmannanshire. These focus on socialisation for children and parents/carers alike, learning through play, preparing healthy snacks etc. ? Learning and Development programme based in our Charity Shop in Alloa ? for family members and wider members of the community who would like to build confidence, social skills, or strive to enter employment. Our programme covers all aspects of working in retail, and is flexible to meet the aims of each volunteer.
