Recipient Org: Charity Number SC048837
Recipient Org: Description Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh was formed in 2010 by a group of islanders who had previously pursued their own spheres of interest in the history, heritage, and culture of Eriskay. It was initially an unincorporated association with 85 members (over three quarters of the adult population of the island) but has recently, in 2018, become a SCIO (SC048837) with its purposes stated as: ? The advancement of citizenship and community development and in particular the regeneration and improvement of the physical, social and economic infrastructure of the area, including assisting people disadvantaged because of social and economic circumstance. ? The advancement of the heritage of the Island of Eriskay, language, culture, arts, and in particular through exhibitions, facilities and other provisions or services. To collect, identify and preserve documents, artefacts, photographs, and other material of historical value in the area for the benefit of the community. To organise and arrange exhibitions, displays, lectures and other events relating to the work of the society and to work in partnership with universities, colleges, schools, and other reputable agencies which have an interest in the work and aims of the society. ? The advancement of education through a better understanding of the built and natural environment of the area and the development of individual skills, capabilities and understanding to improve the lives of the inhabitants of the area and the public in general. ? The provision of recreational and social facilities and activities to improve the lives of the inhabitants of the area and the public in general. ? To support, where possible, charitable institutions with related purposes by fostering a community spirit for the achievement of these and such other purposes as may by law be deemed to be charitable. ? To do all such other things as shall further the objectives of the Trust and extend public benefit. For the avoidance of doubt, this may include the establishment of any associated or subsidiary community interest or trading companies partly or wholly owned by the Trust. Our aim is to research, identify and present the most sustainable and appropriate way in which CEE (Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh (Eriskay Historical Society)) can not only develop the old school in Eriskay as a heritage centre but also as a community hub. This project vision is to create ?a home for the island's heritage, a hub for the island?s community?; to use the school to create a safe and accessible home for the island?s growing heritage collection and to use the collection as the catalyst for a vibrant hub for the community and visitors to the island. It will be where the Eriskay Historical Society can be based to deliver and operate a thriving community owned facility that contributes to the island?s economy, community, and heritage. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on mental health. It?s a topic that we really take seriously as a community group, and we want to help our community as much as possible to recover from the effects of the pandemic and become a confident and resilient community once again and show our support to one another.
