Recipient Org: Charity Number SC049689
Recipient Org: Description Irvine & Dreghorn Brass is an access to all community brass band based in North Ayrshire. We have 3 brass bands in our organisation : a senior (mainly adult) band, a youth band and a community fun band. In a normal year many thousands of people will see our bands perform in concerts, gala days, band competitions and other community events. We also provide free music (brass and percussion) lessons and musical instruments to children and adults to facilitate learning. Our organisation has been in existence for c. 45 years. We have been a registered charity since 1990?s and in 2019 we changed our charity status to a SCIO to enable us to own property. In 2020 we purchased the Dunlop Memorial Hall in Dreghorn (North Ayrshire) via a Community Asset Transfer to create a community music centre and Brass and Percussion Academy. The hall is a great asset to the community and we use it for our band rehearsals, music lessons and for small community concerts (seating capacity around 100). We also enable local groups and community members to hire / use the hall for events. Our 'community' is defined geographically as Dreghorn, Irvine and surrounding areas, and brass or percussion players within a commutable distance of band premises. Band members mainly reside or work in North Ayrshire, one of the most deprived local authority areas in Scotland.
