Recipient Org: Description | The purpose of Alva Glen Heritage Trust is to maintain and enhance Alva Glen for the benefit of the local community and for nature. The main activities we provide are a monthly practical work session in the Glen for volunteers and, every 2nd year, we put on the Alva Glen Illuminations cultural event for the community to enjoy music, entertainment and the Glen beautifully lit up in a fabulous lightshow. At the monthly work days, the volunteers learn and practice skills in horticulture, practical conservation, litter picking, leaf blowing, fencing and a range of other land management as arising, coordinated and supervised by trustees. After the work is done, we chat over cake and biscuits. During planning and running the Illuminations, a broad range of organisational, planning, administrative and practical skills are required. There are opportunities for volunteers to learn new skills in event management, publicity and marketing, practical installation of lighting, managing a team, crowd control and retail sales. |
