Recipient Org: Description | Firefly Arts Limited is located at Howden Park Centre in Livingston, West Lothian. As a well-established charity, we have been providing quality and transformative arts experiences for children, young people and young adults aged 5-25 across West Lothian for over thirty years. Our unique focus on widening access to the arts for marginalised young people sets us apart from other charities in our field. We are proud to devise innovative and bold performances, films, and cultural events for local, national, and international audiences. We are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion at every level of the organisation. Firefly Arts endeavours to lead the environmental narrative through our programs and operations while adhering to current Fair Working practices that align with the Scottish Government guidelines. Our services are diverse and impactful, spanning from Youth Performing Arts to Career Development, Community Enrichment, and Workshop Delivery. We specialise in new writing and youth-led projects, making us one of the most established youth arts organisations in Scotland. Our unique blend of artistic work and community-focused outcomes, such as activist projects and mentoring, further distinguishes us in the sector. Our company, practice and programmes aim to: ? Establish quality, accessible, and innovative youth practices and processes. ? Develop transformative activity to address social, economic, environmental, and cultural challenges. ? Nurture talent, mentor, and equip young adults for Scotland's Creative Industries. ? Provide training, development, and opportunities for emerging artists and creative practitioners. The key outcomes for all Firefly activities include: ? Increased self-confidence, self-esteem, and social skills. ? Increased creative, expressive and technical skills. ? Greater capacity for independent thinking, innovation and self-advocacy. ? Enhanced opportunity to voice, perform and present views, work and achievement. ? Enhanced opportunity to progress talent, create new work, and build cultural networks. Our core programme is delivered across West Lothian, an area with a rich industrial heritage and a vibrant traditional and contemporary music scene. However, there is currently no local arts service in the local council, which significantly hinders the creation of a regional arts strategy. Additionally, West Lothian has the highest population of people under 18 in all of Scotland's 32 local authority areas, with 15% of Scotland's most deprived data zones. A significant proportion of the local population has been affected by the loss of local industry and economic deprivation, which has been further exacerbated by the continuing cost of living crisis. As a result, 17% of children in West Lothian live in severe poverty according to the 2020 SIMD. Despite these challenges, what truly sets Firefly Arts Limited apart is our commitment to breaking down participation barriers. We involve children, young people, and young adults in all aspects of planning, programming, and production. Deeply rooted in the community, our team has strong local partnerships that allow us to cater to the specific needs and interests of our local young people. We are also proud to be taking significant steps towards becoming a pioneering youth-led organisation in Scotland where young people will shape their artistic vision and become empowered through art to become active voices in their local communities and lead the public narrative in the topics that matter most to them. |
