Recipient Org: Description | Aberdeen Performing Arts is the operator of 3 iconic and historic venues in Aberdeen: the Lemon Tree, the Music Hall and His Majesty's Theatre. We run a program of over 400 shows per year, and, as the premier cultural hub in Aberdeen, we draw an audience of over 1 million visitors annually. Our aim is to make the arts accessible to everyone, and we do this through being the venues showing major touring productions; through producing and curating festivals and events to showcase local talent and underrepresented groups in our community; and through running workshops in youth theatre, youth music, over 50s script reading and a community choir to allow the people of our city participate in the arts. The workshops are free to those who need it, to remove any barriers to participation. We work in collaboration with organisations such as Barnardo's to find participants in areas of high deprivation who could benefit from these workshops and might not otherwise be able to take part. Running these venues is an incredible honour, and we want to be able to keep these buildings as our home for the arts for many years to come. That's why we're applying to the Unlocking Our Future fund, to take our historic Lemon Tree into the future. |
