Recipient Org: Description | Coigach Community Development Company (CCDC) was formed in 2010 to benefit the people of Coigach following the principles of sustainable development including management of land and associated assets for the benefit of the community and general public. Our main activities centre around the main themes of: housing, land use, renewable energy, the environment, health and wellbeing, education in its broadest sense, local infrastructure including piers & harbours, broadband and local paths, cultural & heritage and tackling any projects or challenges to the benefit of the community. We now own the former Achiltibuie Schoolhouse which has been converted to flats at affordable rent and leased to Highlands Small Communities Housing Trust who manage tenancies on our behalf. We have established subsidiary companies including Coigach Community CIC that owns the community's wind turbine and Coigach Community Trading Ltd which receives a modest rent from our other community asset, the former Achiltibuie Smokehouse building. We distribute our Coigach Community Fund (income generated by our community owned wind turbine) in the form of small (max £500) grants for Children & Young People, Education & Training, Wellbeing and a larger grant (max £6k) for small groups and organisations that benefit the local community. We also make a £250 "Hello Baby" gift to Coigach new-borns and in March 2020 we quickly launched a Covid Crisis Fund to help local residents who found themselves in immediate need. CCDC is also a member of the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape Partnership that manages the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape (CALL) project and covers a large geographic area in the North West Highlands and includes sub-projects with main themes of environment, natural and built heritage and local community development and education. In October 2024 we became a Crofting Landlord of the approx. 8000 acres of the Badentarbet Estate which we manage on behalf of the community. CCDC has 115 ordinary members, who live in Coigach and may vote. We also have 29 Associate Members who support from elsewhere. We have a website www.coigachcommunity.com, social media and produce regular newsletters. |
