Recipient Org: Charity Number SC046366
Recipient Org: Description We provide aid, support, information and care to displaced people in Dumfries and Galloway. This includes New Scots (those that have recently settled in Scotland) Refugees and those seeking asylum. We are the only Dumfries based charity dedicated to supporting locally based displaced people. We do this by providing - A safe space (The Depot) in which people can meet, make connections, learn, and share and participate in regular and one off social activities Welcome packs including information and basic needs such as clothes, toiletries and facility to repair or replace mobile devices to new arrivals Refurbished bicycles to enable independent transport and access to cycling group, events and activities A programme accessing sport and fitness facilities including gym, cricket and football to aid mental health and well-being Opportunities for integration with local communities and volunteers through social, cultural, sporting and educational activities Partnering with other organisations to influence positive change and develop community connections We provide this support from our Depot in Dumfries and as outreach where necessary. We work across various days to try and maximise opportunities for engagement. We would like to increase the opportunities we offer at The Depot with this funding. Why do we do our work? We provide this support as New Scots face multiple challenges when integrating into local society. Most experience poverty, loneliness, isolation and, language barriers. For those who have claimed asylum there is limited access to resources, they have no recourse to public funds and are for the most part unable to work.
