| Recipient Org: Description | ?As an organisation we are very much concerned with developing children and young people first and boxing coaching comes second. We want to help get young people off street corners and into sport and leading safer and healthier lifestyles.? ? Southside Boxing Academy 2015. This organisation was originally established as a boxing academy, however when we moved to Toryglen nearly 2 years ago we started to see and experience some of the social problems which are prevalent in the more deprived areas in Glasgow and as a result we have adapted our organisation and activities to suit the needs of the local community. We have a Board who is made up of local people. There are clear policies and procedures in place in terms of Governance, Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Equality and Inclusion. We review our policies and procedures, at a minimum, annually. We will adapt and include new polices throughout the year when appropriate. We are fully insured in terms of operational procedures and in line with relevant legislation including health and safety, volunteer/staff to child ratio. All staff and volunteer are fully vetted thought enhanced disclosure checks through the Protection of Vulnerable Group (PVG) Scheme Disclosure Scotland and are all trained regularly in child protection and safe guarding measures. Furthermore, all staff and volunteers are rigorously vetted in terms of references and suitability to work with children and young people. We have a staff/volunteer induction process which helps ensure the safe and well organised running of all club activities. The club offers a variety of opportunities for children, young people and adults to take part in physical activities and other community initiatives such as school fitness sessions, family days, boxing classes for everyone all ages and abilities, training and fitness classes and community development. We promote volunteer opportunities for young adults and adults to help improve their confidence and employability as well as promote community engagement. Our organisation is very much embedded within the community. Our Board is made up of local people which is fundamental in gaining knowledge of local need and demand. We have developed positive joint working with other local facilities, groups and partners who can sign post to us. Our organisation has a strong social media presence and will continue to target the local community using boost post and other targeting marketing to communicate and engage with the local community. We have also delivered programmes within local schools and as a result we have an awareness of some of the children and families who are at risk. These programmes have helped us build very strong and positive relationships with local schools who help sign post children and families to our activities and programmes. We have achieved Boxing Scotland?s Silver Accreditation and Glasgow Sports Club Mark Accreditation recognising our organisation has an open, inclusive and well organised structure .We have also taken this one step further by recently signing up to the SAMH mental health charter. As a club we are always looking to remove barriers to participation, this ranges for running women? s only activities to subsidised places for those who are in most need. Our Values are; - Changing lives through sport in the community - Helping young people get more active, healthier and fitter - Increasing children and young people?s confidence and self-motivation - Encouraging young people to have a greater sense of citizenship - Helping young people to foster more self-discipline and respect During 2019 we provided a number of programmes to help tackle the difficulties local people we facing this included. Holiday food programme to reduce food poverty. This was provided to on average 40 children every day for six weeks during the summer period. Food bank collection for local initiatives. Homeless essential items collection and distribution. Digital quizzes for whole family. Isolation programme (every day during entire first lockdown period March 2019). Well being group chats and challenges ( on average 40 plus children took part). Outdoor blended programmes ( eat health and get fit). Safer Saturday nights ( reduce antisocial and vandalism). Family Sunday Funday (reduce isolation and keep fit - whole family approach). We have also maintained our club programmes when restrictions have allowed. We have adapted when needed (outside and reduced numbers). We will be soon given out food parcels to local people in need as part of continued wider community based work. If successful with this funding application we will run the digital 'active well-being programme' with a an aim of implementing this as soon as possible.
