| Recipient Org: Description | Glasgow-based DIFFERabled Scotland (DS) was founded in January 2017 . Differabled is a unique grassroots neuroaffirming organisation, built on the immense personal lived experience of Neurodivergent staff and volunteers, with focus on empowering the Neurominority. We value the natural diversity of the human brain and neurological differences, thus promoting what excellence a 'different brain can bring', rather than seeing deficits to be "fixed". We aim to reduce prejudice, exclusion, social isolation and inequalities from early years until retirement, by promoting self empowerment and autonomy. We offer a varied and accessible free Neurodiversity learning and awareness programmes, a network of peer info sessions/workshops and 1:1 supports, building the confidence and resilience of neurodivergence, with or without formal diagnosis. stress. Throughout this programme we aim to empower the neuro minority from early years into adulthood supporting the various stages of transition; there is no difference in terms of perceived class or education of parents or carers, in term of having success approaching their child's school to make reasonable adjustments, in terms of understanding what they do and how they go about it. These stages of transition, include early years into primary school, primary onto secondary school and secondary school and onwards to further/higher education and adult services. All of these sessions have been developed with immense personal lived experience and personal 'life' examples of the full Differabled team. Bringing our community together s enables participants to feel less isolated and more supported by people like themselves, they can share their personal experiences and techniques and provide direct tried and tested advice and empathy. |
