Gaelic classes for adults (360G-BNG-TFC-2026-02354)

We wish to continue providing Gàidhlig san Dachaigh language courses which have been available for seventeen years in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire. We have weekly classes for post-beginners, intermediate and advanced students in person and via Zoom. The majority of our 41 students attend in person with 11 people attending via Zoom. The classes provide a regular Gaelic connection for people to continue to improve their language skills. In addition to learning the language, our native Gaelic speaking tutor opens up Gaelic culture and history to us and, for many students, this provides an insight into a part of Scottish life and identity that they previously had little awareness of.Each year we invite Gaelic speakers to come to the class to tell us about their lives. Recently, November 2025, Ruairidh Gray gave us a talk in Gaelic, with some English translation for beginner students, about his Gaelic upbringing and his Gaelic singing career. We aim to have a class outing each year to a place with Gaelic connections and within the past two years have visited the Scottish Parliament for a tour delivered in Gaelic by Alasdair MacCaluim and enjoyed a heritage walking tour in the centre of Glasgow around the former site of Grahamston village which historically had a substantial Gaelic speaking population. We communicate information to our students concerning Gaelic events happening in the area. The main aims of this project are:Teaching Gaelic (speaking, listening and grammar) to adults in regular weekly classes
Involvement in and promotion of Gaelic cultural heritage
Raising awareness of Gaelic language and culture
