Gaelic in East Sutherland (360G-BNG-TFC-2026-02410)
I'd like to organise a year of regular Gaelic community events to provide an opportunity for people of all ages and stages to use and experience Gaelic in East Sutherland. Local communities, venues and businesses will benefit and Gaelic will begin to thrive again. Annual: Spòrs Gàidhlig. Orienteering and Mapland na h-Alba.Biannual: Community afternoon ceilidh with a paid musician leading a Gaelic song and music session with invitations for anyone to join in. Tea and cake will be provided. Leugh is seinn le Linda x 4 sessionsQuarterly: Gaelic in-person day. Online event: Song, mountain names, conversation, proverbs etc. Monthly Gaelic activities (one per month): Gaelic song day - morning song writing, afternoon song workshop, evening concert. Rachael Walker and Aaron Jones.Gaelic/Gaeilge afternoon workshops follwed by a concert. Ross Christie.Coffee morning with Gaelic Bingo.Every month: Còmhradh Gaidhlig.Ad hoc: Once a quarter I'd also like to invite people to submit a brief video on a subject of their choice which would include Gaelic and English transcriptions (in text form separately). The top video, as chosen by the committee, would receive £100 each and the video would be posted on the Gaelic in Sutherland Facebook page. The transcriptions would be posted in the comments so learners could choose to listen and try to understand before looking at the text. This would be a good outlet for youngsters (or adults) wanting to get into filmmaking, as well a a follow on or precursor to Film G.
