Recipient Org: Description Grayswood Nursery aims to provide high quality early years education to children of 2.5 - 5 years from the village of Grayswood (Waverley) and the surrounding areas. The ethos is to holistically develop each individual child establishing a life-long love of learning through childhood exploration. This is achieved through the children's ability to access a classroom in the village hall and outside activities on the village green. The nursery believe the most effective way to educate children in their early years is in the natural environment and consequently much of the children's learning takes place within the 'Forest School'. The Forest School takes place in three sessions per week and all children can attend at least one session per week. This aspect of the school has been running for 5 years and has recently moved to land at Autumn Woods Farm. Increasingly the nursery is being asked to provide for children with profound disability. Currently 43 children are registered, 14 of whom have special educational needs and 4 of whom have limited mobility and specific health conditions. This independent nursery was established in September 1981 and is a registered charity. It receives funding from Surrey County Council for the Free Early Years Education (FEET) scheme. Grayswood nursery also receives fees from parents / carers for some of the children attending, either because they are not eligible for FEET, or have used their free hours elsewhere, or if the children stay for more than 15 hours. There is one full-time member of staff, supported by 9 part-time workers and 2 volunteers. The nursery is managed by a Committee of 5 people. An after-school Forest Adventure Club is also available to children aged 5-11 years old.
