Recipient Org: Description | The Breck Foundation (BF) is based in Redhill in Reigate & Banstead Borough, and operates throughout England. It was establised in January 2015. BF is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation which teaches young people how to use the internet safely, particularly in relation to their interaction with others. The majority of this awareness work takes place in schools. BF conducts safety presentations tailored to particular year groups, as well as adapting delivery for groups of children who have special educational needs (SEN). At these presentations BF shares the real life story of a boy from Caterham in Surrey, who lost his life to an internet predator in 2014 aged just 14 years. His story contains many vital learning points which are shared throughout the presentation in a way which enables young people to relate to Breck and to understand the mistakes he made. The ultimate lesson taught is to never meet up with a stranger. BF aims to empower children to make wiser, safer decisions when they are navigating their online world. The tagline is 'Play Virtual / Live Real'. The Founder Lorin LaFave has met with the present Government and Ofsted in recent months and has raised the issues surrounding internet safety on multiple public platforms. The Breck Foundation is managed by 5 Trustees and employs 2 full-time staff who work from home. |
