Recipient Org: Description | Haslemere and District Community Centre, known as Haslewey, is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee with the primary aim of managing and administering an all-age community centre for charitable purposes for the benefit of the community of Haslemere and the surrounding district. The centre has around 6000 visits per month. The premises has a number of rooms which are available for hire. A wide range of community activities are housed at Haslewey including ballet, indoor bowls, Pilates, jive, weight watchers, Tai Chi, Walks for Health, Spanish and the Orchard Club for elderly local residents. The Centre also holds regular events for residents in partnership with other local organisations, such as a Burns Night supper, live bands, hog roasts, and quiz nights. Chiropody and hair dressing services are also available on site. Haslewey is not grant funded and relies on room rental to cover the running and maintenance of the building. The centre also runs as a Brighter Futures program which is a 6 week course covering all aspects of making choices going forward in life, help with CVs, job interviews, self-confidence workshops, and a psychometric test to encourage people to understand their strengths and working relationships. A drop-in computer course is also offered for the elderly, as well as free events for children during the holidays. The centre has operated since 2003. It employs 2 full-time staff and 7 part-time staff members. The operation is overseen by a 9 Trustees. |
