Recipient Org: Description Cruse is a national charity which provides free and confidential advice, information and support to children, young people and adults who have been bereaved when or however the death occurred. The national charity was founded in 1959 and the North Surrey branch has been active since 1978, covering the areas of Elmbridge, Spelthorne, Woking and Runnymede. Surrey North Area Cruse Bereavement Care's referral team received enquiries from 568 people seeking advice last year. Of these 268, including 26 children went onto receive support from a bereavement volunteer. Surrey North Cruse offers a range of services including: •Volunteers providing someone to talk to face-to-face or on the telephone •Group support enabling bereaved people to talk to others in similar circumstances •Information and advice about many aspects of bereavement and other sources of help and support •One-to-one support for clients in their own homes, or at the charity's offices in Chertsey •One-to-one support for children at home or at school. Groups run for eight weeks and help people regain their confidence by sharing their experiences, helping them realise that their feelings are normal. Groups are facilitated by Bereavement Volunteers. The aim is to help people regain control of their lives, so that eventually they rebuild emotional strength and go on to face life in the community and in the workplace Surrey North Area Cruse Bereavement Care is run my a management committee of 11 Trustees and is supported by one part-time member of staff and 65 trained volunteers.
