| Recipient Org: Description | True Honour (TH) is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation established in January 2014 and initially known as ‘Your Voice’. Initially a community group, TH is a registered charity with two clear aims - to stop abuse and save lives. The organisation delivers training/awareness on crimes such as domestic violence, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), forced marriage and Honour Based Violence (HBV). TH’s office is based in South London and to date, the charity has undertaken work in Woking (Surrey), Slough (Berkshire), and London (Kingston and Southall). TH's mission is to engage with Police and other agencies to gauge a better understanding of victims, to meet the needs of all communities, particularly Asian communities, by providing training and awareness-raising activities on hidden abuse, and to support them in a safe and empowering way. TH’s Founder speaks on these subjects at conferences, as well as taking part in the training of police officers where first-hand experience is shared, helping officers to understand how best to support victims. The charity holds groups/sessions for young people and helps all people regardless of age, gender, or background, and paying attention to those with language and cultural barriers. TH aims not judge anyone and to build trust between police and local communities. TH aims to help reduce isolation, depression, low self-esteem and family breakdown, and helps people make positive choices. True Honour’s mobile number is available Monday-Friday in English, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. There are no paid staff and the work has been carried out by a full-time volunteer. The charity presently has a Management Committee of 8 people, supported by 4 volunteers. |
