Recipient Org: Description The Meath Epilepsy Trust was founded in 1892 by Mary, Countess of Meath, described as a forward-thinking philanthropist and a woman of great compassion. Today the Meath is a specialist provider, caring for adults who face complex epilepsy coupled with other related disabilities. The Meath provides support to enable clients to live life fully, in an environment as close to home as possible, with opportunities for the development of practical and creative skills. The Meath Trustee Company Limited was incorporated in 2006 and is the Trustee of the Meath Epilepsy Charity. As a registered charity, the Meath provides residential care in Godalming, and supported living accommodation, as well as running a day service on site. The Skills and Enterprise Centre at the Meath has a specialist gym and runs sessions including horticulture, ceramics, Maths, English, IT, a choir and expressive arts. A range of activities and classes take place, including drama, music and dance, poetry, book club, felt making and textiles, social awareness, and holistic therapy. The Arthouse has become part of the Meath's Day Centre, providing an opportunity for people with epilepsy and other disabilities to develop new skills, confidence and self-expression through art. Other enterprises include an up-cycling project, and a café providing work experience for residents of The Meath. The Meath Trust employs 110 full-time and 90 part-time staff and is overseen by a Board of 12 Trustees/Directors. 75 volunteers support the work of the organisation. In 2017, The Meath celebrated 125 years of being a charity and received an ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating.
