Recipient Org: Description | Surrey Independent Living Council (SILC) is a non-profit making voluntary sector organisation based in Guildford. The charitable company was incorporated on 9 December 2011. SILC is led and run by and for disabled people. SILC helps disabled people with their direct payments (for Adult Social Care), and helps to arrange the support and services they require. The charity supports people in Surrey who are disabled, elderly or caring for others so that they can live independently with the same choices and control over their lives as anyone else. SILC offers valuable peer support as well as practical guidance on managing care. Most clients receive council-funded Direct Payments, but there are also clients who fund their own care or need help with managing their personal finances. SILC can assist with: deciding whether a Direct Payment is appropriate and explaining how these payments work; supporting the recruitment and employment of Personal Assistants; free training; practical advice on staying safe and independent; providing an Assisted Finance Account to help clients manage their finances; and support with budgets, bank accounts and financial management. Other services offered include: Personal Assistant Finder website; NHS Health Complaints Advocacy service; Supported Pathways to Employment project (SPE) – a tailored, supported programme for people with a disability or long term health condition who are unemployed or have challenges returning to work; and GP Carer Support Payment scheme which provides support to people in a caring role, including provision of funding for a carer’s break where appropriate. |
