Recipient Org: Description | This application concerns the aim of the school to run an annual residential holiday for 20 children with severe special needs, aged between 10 and 16. The first is due to take place at the school between 16 and 23 August 2014. As a school we have built relationships through community sevice with 2 special schools, West Hill and Woodlands. We have become aware that the long summer holidays are particularly hard for families with children with special needs and following a model which has been running at Oundle School for 30 years want to hold an annual activity holiday. The aim is to allow these children to have a week of fun, different activities in a safe, caring environment. They will be individually supported by trained volunteers from the school (sixth form pupils & some teachers) and by trained supervisors from Oundle school. The aim is to cement stronger community ties, help change attitudes to special needs and allow the families of the participants some respite time . |
