Recipient Org: Description Shooting Star Children’s Hospices (SSCH) is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. The charity provides palliative care for young people (0-21 years) who are suffering from any life-limiting illness or condition. Currently this care is provided to c700 families at family homes in London and Surrey, as well as at Christopher’s Hospice in Guildford, and Shooting Star House in Hampton, London. Shooting Star Children’s Hospices support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement. The bespoke support is free of charge and available 24/7, 365 days a year. The care service includes respite breaks at the two hospices, community hospice at home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care and bereavement support care. SSCH is the product of a merger (April 2011) between two neighbouring hospices – CHASE (Children’s Hospice Association South East) with an overt Surrey family focus and Shooting Star Children’s Hospice formed in 1995 whose care catchment was west and central London. Shooting Star House (Hampton) has been serving life-limited children in 15 London boroughs for 14 years, and likewise Christopher’s (Guildford) has been caring for young people throughout Surrey for 17 years.
