Recipient Org: Description Woking Mind (WM) is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. It was established in 1979 and is affiliated to the National MIND charity. WM provides a safe, welcoming place for people living with enduring mental health problems, offering an evidenced programme of activities and support. The charity’s aims are to prevent mental health problems from escalating; to support the recovery process; to involve and empower members to influence their care; and to promote good mental health practice. The charity works in close partnership with both clinical services and other mental health support providers in Surrey, both receiving and making referrals. Through the year there are courses and activities offered such as arts and crafts, creative writing, cinema club, discussion groups, walking tours, exercise and movement, and the WM football team. WM offers a drop-in service from 10am to 2pm, Monday to Wednesday and this enables members to seek support on days when they may be seriously struggling and unable to engage in structured groups. Informal 1-to-1 support is offered as needed, whether in person, on the phone, or via email. Since January, the charity’s 3 part-time staff have supported people in Surrey over 300 times through these methods. The charity provides mental health awareness training to local schools (free of charge) and to companies (for a donation). WM has 200 active members. The charity has 6 Trustees, 3 part-time staff and 15 volunteers.
