Recipient Org: Description The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, not having a share capital. The charity’s mission statement is “to give excellent specialist care and support to patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses, and through training, empower other healthcare professionals to do the same”. The hospice is based in Farnham and offers Specialist Palliative Care to adults facing the end of their life, serving a population of 600,000 across West Surrey and North East Hampshire. The charity has been supporting patients with life-limiting conditions and their families since 1979. Every day, the hospice supports over 100 patients and carers in their own homes and at the Hospice. Services include Clinical Nurse Specialists, an 18-bed In-Patient Unit, a Day Hospice, Patient and Family Services, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Complementary Therapy. All services are offered free of charge. The NHS covers less than 16% of the charity’s costs, which means that the Hospice has to fundraise 84p in every pound - over £10,000 a day. The charity currently employs 64 members of full-time staff and 213 part-time staff; the charity also benefits from the support of 950 volunteers and 11 trustees.
