Recipient Org: Description The Autism Trust is a small independent charity based in Camberley. We provide help and support for post 16’s (with an ASD diagnosis) to develop life skills and employability skills. These skills can improve their life chances and give them experience and confidence to potentially obtain gainful employment. We provide an environment where young people in Surrey with ASD can foster independence and provide work experience sessions where individuals have responsibility for tasks and if appropriate, they may work towards qualifications through the ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) We also support families of those with ASD in the local community, holding monthly coffee mornings. Throughout the year we choose guest speakers to talk about autism specific subjects, often concentrating on ways to help the family member with autism or how to keep carers healthy. We also have fun activities for everyone to join in with, and offer a safe and supportive environment. In 2020 we are looking to develop a Horticultural course for our service users in Surrey. Horticultural therapy has proven benefits for individuals with autism. We believe it is very important for our service users to have access to outdoor learning. Approximately 1/3 of beneficiaries are from Surrey (May 2020).
