Recipient Org: Description | In line with the worldwide Men's Shed movement that originated in Australia in 1998, the objective of this Charity is to promote social inclusion and assist the relief of loneliness, isolation, depression and other mental health issues principally within the older (65+) male community of Weybridge, Surrey, but available to all within the Area of Benefit who is at least 18 years of age. The age and sex demographic is expected to follow existing UK Sheds in general, but certainly similar to those several projects that have been visited for prior research purposes. We are therefore highly confident that our model will meet its area’s distinct need for the benefits it has to offer. Official Charity Commission scheme wording: 1. TO PROMOTE SOCIAL INCLUSION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY THE REDUCTION OF SOCIAL EXCLUSION OF PEOPLE (PARTICULARLY BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY OLDER MEN) WITHIN WEYBRIDGE AND ITS IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING AREA. 2. TO RELIEVE THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE SOCIALLY EXCLUDED BY ASSISTING THEM TO INTEGRATE INTO SOCIETY THROUGH THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES IN WHICH THEY CAN MEET TO UNDERTAKE, JOINTLY OR INDIVIDUALLY, CREATIVE, PHYSICAL AND/OR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, LEARN AND/OR PASS ON SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE, AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER SOCIALLY. Charity Commission Classifications: 1. What? - Disability/Recreation. 2. Who? - Elderly members of the general public. 3. How? - Provision of social facilities. This will be achieved by the erection of a brand-new, purpose-built facility conveniently located on existing allotment land owned by the Weybridge (Land) Charity in the Town centre, thereby making it highly accessible to all members of the local community. |
